AP Article - Government wants ISP User Data...

Yep,  there ya go....for all the folks who still think that because you are using your own computer at home to surf for whatever, on your own time, here is another reminder to you....you are never anonymous.  You may be able to anonymize your hits to websites by using redirectors,  but even that can be tracked.

The Attorney General is now making inroads with Internet Service Providers (ISP) to require them to retain all their server records for up to two years,  in an effort to assure "trackability" of users internet and email habits,  under the auspices of making the internet safe, from porn and other threats to kids.  Currently, providers have no specific requirements for server log retention, and practices range from several days to a year.  In concept, these records are just supposed to be retained by the providers,  to be available if needed, and acquired only through the normal legal means of subpoena or search warrant. In practice,  who knows how or when they will be used;  you may not know until they show up at your house with a search warrant, to look for your pirated music from Limewire or your porn.  There are financial implications for providers as well;  the storage needs will cause their expenses to increase.  That could result in higher costs for consumers for access to the internet; an unintended ( I would hope) backlash.

Folks,  bottom line is, don't assume that anything you do on the internet is your private business....think of it more as beating off in front of a hidden camera......maybe someone will watch the tape,  maybe noone will.....

Later....
